Save the Date: May 23, 2026 | Call for Proposals Open (Due March 15)
In the spirit of our collaboration with the Northeast Council of Teachers of Japanese (NECTJ), we warmly invite proposals from educators across the entire spectrum of our field—including K-12 teachers, heritage and community school instructors, graduate students, and postsecondary faculty.
We welcome submissions on a diverse range of topics related to Japanese language and culture education, such as:
Pedagogy: Classroom best practices, K-16 articulation, and heritage language education.
Research: Linguistics, second language acquisition, and pedagogical innovations.
Culture: Literature, history, and pop culture.
Format of the presentation:
Presentations will be held live via Zoom and may be delivered in English or Japanese. To foster real-time engagement and community connection, we are not accepting pre-recorded presentations.
Each presenter will have 25 minutes to present, followed by a 10-minute Q&A session.
Format of the proposal:
PDF (.pdf) format only.
No more than 300 words in English or 700 characters in Japanese.
Please note that a proposal should be written in the same language as the one used in the presentation.
Submissions are limited to one proposal per person, as either single or joint author.
File-naming instructions: Your name should not appear on the proposal itself (only the title and contents should appear on the proposal document). The filename of the document should be “(PresentationTitle)_proposal.pdf”.
The deadline for receipt of proposals is Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time.
You will be asked to provide your email address on the Proposal Submission Form. After you submit, you should receive an email confirming your submission. If you do not receive the confirmation, please contact Keiko Konoeda kkonoeda@bates.edu to make sure your submission has been received.
